Meanwhile the ladies will visit an attraction in Manchester (John Rylands Museum / Library or Manchester Tour) folowed by a visit / meal in China town

On Saturday evening there will be an informal get-together in the hotel with those wishing to go to the theatre leaving to suit that itinerary

The Installation of our 22nd Worshipful Master will be at Manchester Hall, Bridge Street, Manchester M3 3BT at noon on 16th March 2019. It will be followed by a Festive Board

There will be a demonstration of the Lodge of Sorrows presented by members of Glossopdale Lodge. Ladies will be invited to a buffet lunch (£15) before lodge opens and to the demonstration.

FestivalOn Saturday evening from 6.30pm for dining at 7.30 pm will be the formal Ladies Festival dinner costing just £26 Dress code will if possible be black ties for men and cocktail/evening dresses for the ladies but jacket and tie will be fine if you wish.

Standard format as per normal (English, Worcestershire, Lancashire and may be other provinces) for the Ladies evening including speeches and ladies’ song.

The entertainment will be self motivated and we can enjoy our own company without competing with the high decibels generated by the dance band, rock group or DJ!

The main business of the meeting will be a demonstration of the Lodge of Sorrows.

Our ladies will be entitled to see the demonstration.

This meeting offers the very rare chance to see a ceremony hardly ever seen in UGLE

Questions have been asked about the "Lodge of Sorrows" it is very worthy of an explanation. Similar ceremonies are carried out in Australia and in other countries throughout the world nut not in the U.K.

It is to commemorate the passing of a brother.

The ceremony to be demonstrated was put together by Glossopdale lodge under the guidance of our late brother David Slack who researched these ceremonies overseas and constructed this from the "best bits" elsewhere

David Slack was the prime author of this ceremony. Sadly the first occasion on which it was carried out for real was in respect of David who died suddenly this year.

 David had arranged for this demonstration at Harrogate before he died and we are grateful that Glossopdale Lodge decided to continue with their visit our lodge and give the demonstration

It is a very moving and poignant ceremony to which the widow and family are invited. It is very suitable for our ladies and very interesting to all.

Wedo hope that as many as possible will take the opportunity to see this and to thank Glossopdale Lodge for their presentation of it.

Tamworth in Staffordshire ia a "new" town developed in the 1950's for the Birmingham overspill

Tamwoth is well served from both Birmingham International airport and East Midlands airport at Kegworth.

The venue  was chosen by W.Bro Alan Breward as he would like to take a group to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alweras which is about 15 miles North West of our venue.

Other possible visits are to Tamworth Castle or for the adventurous the Snow Dome or Drayton Manor Park (get there early on Friday and have a great time.)

We have secured 30 double rooms in the Holiday Inn Express Tamworth for the weekend @ £109 per room per night including breakfast.

Saturday 11th August

We will meet in Tamworth Masonic Hall. There will be a practice at 10:00 a.am. Lodge will tyle at Noon.
After the meeting we will be dining with the ladies in the halls at around 13:30. After the festive board I will be presenting a talk on the “National Memorial Arboretum & the New Masonic garden of Remembrance”. Vicky and I were guides for many years at the NMA, from its infancy, starting off as weekend Gardners and bush and tree “trimmers” along with other tasks, then as volunteers in the main centre (i also drove the land train in the early days shouting commentary to the visitors whilst driving around the site (now DVD and CD commentary on the train).
Evening, rest and recharge those batteries.

Sunday 12th August

Coach trip to the National Memorial Arboretum 
The coach will get us to the Arboretum for 10:30 time to refresh and be there for the 11:00 service of remembrance in the Chapel. After the Chapel service and talk we will make our way to the “Land Train” for a guided tour of the site. Following lunch in the Gallery we will have a small service of Remembrance and a wreath laying. The rest of the afternoon until 16:30 is yours. We will return to the Hotel in Tamworth by coach and then say our fond farewells and relax looking forward to our next merry meeting in Harrogate in October.

Brother Cristian Mihutoiu’s Installation

A few days before our brother Cristian Mihutoiu was confirmed by ballot as our 2019 Worshipful Master a party of 10 Internet Lodge members visited Bucharest to attend his installation in the Chair of King Solomon of the Mesterul Manole Lodge No. 24 – his first Chair.
The party consisted of our Worshipful Master, Alan Turton, W.Bros. Alan Breward, David Starbuck, Steve Gregory, Roy Morris, Ken Morris, Ken Donaghue and (special trip from Florida) Jim Hogg.
During a 5-day stay we received the utmost hospitality by our Romanian friends, being personally transported to and from the airport, and with all arrangements made to keep us entertained, fed and watered.
The meeting was held in the Ghica Palace in Bucharest, and was conducted with great formality. All visitors entered the Lodge in appropriate groupings and were individually welcomed by the Worshipful Master before being seated. The IL group entered under the direction and acting DC Steve Gregory and was courteously welcomed in English. There were many other visitors from Romania and surrounding jurisdictions, and a significant number of chain-wearing distinguished brethren.
The ceremony was most impressive and was conducted with great dignity. It was enhanced throughout by appropriately chosen, choreographed and, where appropriate, dramatic music. We all enjoyed it immensely. Although it was, of course, conducted in Romanian, it was very easy to understand what was going on from the floor work choreography. The musical enhancement was amazing, using classical and modern music beautifully integrated with the ritual.
After the ceremony, greetings were given – sometimes at great length – by all and sundry. When our “DC” called the Internet Lodge to order, well over 20 stood up – the visitors and many of our Romanian brethren.
Although not an official Internet Lodge event, it was one of the many social and masonic visits which make the lodge so special. It had particular significance because our brother Secretary, David Starbuck, already knew that in a few short days Cristian would emerge the winner of the 2019 WM ballot. He didn’t tell anyone!

The Installation of Bro Alan Breward as our 21st Worshipful Master will be at Manchester Hall, Bridge Street, Manchester M3 3BT at noon on 17th March 2018. It will be followed by a traditional festive board.

Manchester Events 16th to 18th March 2018

ACHotelWe have sourced accommodation with private facilities for our March meeting in Manchester which, as usual is the venue for the installation meeting and weekend of our 21st Worshipful Master

The weekend will start with the brethren and their guests arriving in Manchester with perhaps a meander around the fine City. The “formal” festivities commence with a private meeting room for a meet and greet to either reacquaint ourselves or meet the new brethren and especially their guests. The private function room and buffet at a cost of £20 per person will be a wonderful time to meet each other reflect on past events and discuss the planned events as we go forward.

Saturday morning will dawn and after the hearty breakfast a short walk or ride into the newly refurbished Manchester Hall for the all important rehearsal at 10:00 a.m. where the DC will refresh us with the East Lancashire emulation workings! Then the installation and appointments will commence at noon and afterwards we adjourn to the Festive Board. The meeting and the Festive Board will be in the newly refurbished and splendid rooms. 

Following the tyler's toast and the return to our non masonic guests at the hotel Saturday evening will be open to your own entertainment. On Sunday,following breakfast we will wish everyone a very safe journey home.

 

Great Malvern 10th to 12th August  2018

For the August meeting of the year the lodge will meet in Great Malvern, Worcestershire. Accommodation will be at at the Abbey Hotel.
Great Malvern is in the home Province of our current Senior Warden in wonderful Worcestershire under the slopes of the Malvern Hills
and in Elgar country,
We will start with a welcome on the Friday night. The Saturday meeting will include a short talk on the National Memorial Arboretum
which will be open to the ladies.
Saturday evening will be in the Abbey Hotel with entertainment. On Sunday we plan a coach trip to the National Memorial Arboretum for a guided tour.

Europa Hotel is situated in Belfast central area, adjacent to the bus/coach/rail station (within yards/meters) in Great Victoria Street over looking the “Crown Bar” National Trust (but NO membership required here). Access to Belfast served by land sea & air. Land, rail and coach station next door to hotel, Sea ferry service to Belfast Stena Lines Belfast from Cairnryan (Stranraer Scotland) and Liverpool, short journey from ferry port to Hotel using one of the few Motorways in NI. By Air to Belfast International Airport (formally Aldergrove) about 20 miles NW. and Belfast City (George Best) on the south side of Belfast Lough, just 5 miles away, now no need for expensive taxi’s from the airport (Unless of course you wish?) as Ulsterbus company provide a service to/from airports to bus/coach station next door to hotel at a very, very reasonable cost and regular times. Cars if you are using, the Hotel has NO carpark BUT a public car park above the rail/bus/coach station at about £20 per day (i understand this can be discounted to £18 per day but not confirmed). As you will see from the projected itinerary we will be using a private coach company for visits in the Isle.

Now Not a National Trust member? why not join, OR join the National Trust of Malta (I am reliably informed BIG savings) this has reciprocal access to National Trust of England, as does the National Trust for Scotland (and many many other NT’s) Also I am expecting to collect in the New Year your welcome packs & various flyers one of which (St. Patrick’s Trail) had 2 for 1 tickets for County Down (Not the Giants Causeway but more about that site later.)

Sunday 6th May

Things don't start to early in Northern Ireland on a Sunday BUT.

From Belfast St. Georges Market to the Hop-on-Hop-off
RED bus tour of Belfast. First bus stops outside the Hotel at about 10:30 and run every 30 mins until 16:30.

Plenty of time to see the Titanic quarter, Crumlin Road Gaol, the Mhtseeing-tour/urals, Belfast City Hall and lots lot more of Belfast (don’t try and do it all in one Sunday, as we will be here on Monday).

Evening free time to recharge those batteries.

Monday 7th May and Bank Holiday or May Day.

That RED bus tour of Belfast is still very much valid and all those stop-off’s you missed are again available. BUT in Holywood (just along the Bangor road out of Belfast past the City airport there's one of very few if not the only May Day celebration with Maypole dancers, A coach can take us and return to the Hotel after the event so you won’t miss anything.
In the evening I have received an invitation to a meeting of the Prince of Wales Own Lodge meeting in in Belfast within walking distance.Ladies entertainment to be aranged..

Tuesday 8th

What a day planned to take the East coast road from Belfast through Carrikfergus (possible stop at the Castle NOT NT) then onwards north to the  Giants Causeway (NT), (Note access to the shore line and “Causeway” can be gained avoiding the NT Shop so no membership required) And then onto Bushmills distillery for lunch and the distillery visit and then the North east coast of Antrim.
Evening relax and recharge.

“Lazy” (if you can have a lazy day here?) Why not take in those “Must” see’s you have in your pack, The Orange Museum the shores of Belfast Lough, Belfast Castle, Stormont including parliament building, Castle & grounds,

Arrival evening was taken with the "welsh" in Biblos restaurant where we sampled the Haggis Tatties & Neeps (Haggis balls in deep fried batter) Excellent.

Day one Saturday started with an excellent breakfast from the Ibis Hotel on South Bridge Street, followed by a leisurely stroll to the Waverley Station to board the local train to Dunfermline on the other side of the "Forth" so over the Forth rail bridge with views of the new (still in construction) and the current (under repair! Again!) road bridges. So we arrive in Dunfermline to board our coach for the next two days with the driver Arthur and the days guide/host Bro James Swann (PM of Lodge Elgin of Bruce Lodge). So sorting ourselves the coach takes us to the birthplace and early childhood house of Sir Andrew Carnegie. After the cottage visit we "strolled" up the road & hill to the Dunfermline Abbey, the burial place of more Kings & Queens than any other Abbey or Church in the UK. The guided tour inside the Abbey and the surrounding yards was most educating and fascinating. a lunch/snack was then taken in the City Hotel before boarding the coach which took us to picture's village of Culross to visit the National Trust of Scotland's Palace or Great Lodging of Culross, built for Sir George Bruce. The Palace and many of the villages houses/cottages are managed by the NTS. Following ice creams on the green in the sunshine we were coached to Limekilns and the Kings Cellar and the home of Lodge Elgin Bruce where the stories from Brother Jim were wonderful and kept all amazed (& very amused!). On arrival at the Lodge rooms we were met by David Starbuck and our European brethren Markus Renggli & Reinhard Gerlich who had arrived at the Ibis that afternoon and picked up by Bro. Gerard O'Donnell our local contact, BUT the highlight was when Bro's Herbert Lazet and Sjoerd Papa from the Netherlands stepped from their motor bikes and opened their "leathers" to reveal full dinner suits! We had planned that we would be entertained by Lodge Elgin Bruce BUT due to small numbers had to be revised. Our tour of the Lodge rooms completed some hour plus latter was then onwards to our evening meal at the "Riverview Restaurant" and after the coach back to the Ibis.

Sunday and an early start for the coach drive to the borders and on to Abbotsford and the home of Sir Walter Scott (writer and Freemason). PM saw us traveling through the picturesque river Tay valley to Roslin and the Rosslyn Chapel to explore the mystery and discover the History or the KT? or satisfy the curiosity from the Da Vinci Code? I came away having satisfied that curiosity but a little disappointed, don't get me wrong the American guide certainly knew her history and stories and I'd like to leave it at that. The "ONLY" S&C's i found were upon a tomb stone in the cemetery! Back to the Ibis and farewell to Arthur our fantastic driver. Wash and brush up before we (Vicky & i) took the stroll to the evening not at the Scotts Guards but a wonderful Italian restaurant "Mama Roma" on Antiqua Street. Here we dined and were entertained by Bro. Alan Rutland a member of Lodge St David No 36 (Uni Lodge) and a PM of Lodge Holyroodhouse St. Lukes No 44, on the life of Sir Walter Scott. Walking off the meal and wine back to the Ibis.

Monday and a later start took a short stroll walk down to Holyroodhouse Palace, passing the Lodge rooms of the Operative Masons of Cowgate. Following the tour of the Palace and coffee, we boarded the open top bus to the Botanical Gardens, we (Vicky & i) took the route around the city to the gardens again (well worth it) before getting off to have coffee and snacks in the gardens and walks before catching the last bus back to the city and a very short walk to the Ibis.

Tuesday and another early stroll to the Waverley Station and Scotts monument to board the open top bus tour to take us out to the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith with "fast track" tickets to the Yacht. New sites to see on this wonderful Yacht and a meeting with an ex RM Yachtsman for a deeper "secrets" of the Yacht. PM saws us boarding the bus still out in the open sunshine to get of at the stop on Cannongate close to St. Johns Street to visit the home of the Royal Order of Scotland to visit the "oldest" purpose built Lodge rooms in the world and the place where "Rabbie Burns" was initiated and made Poet Lauriat (check out the picture!) the tour guide of the rooms was conducted by Bro Maurice Wilson MBE a Past Substitute Grand Master and the Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master of Edinburgh, and a Past Master of Lodge St. James's Operative Masons No 97 (felt very humble and privileged). Head is now full of masonic knowledge i'm bursting! BUT catch a "Fast Black" and onwards to Lodge Edinburgh St. Mary's Chapel where the Lodges first minutes were recorded and available (certainly meeting before that date!) 1597 (see picture of Master in 1597. Again our excellent guide Bro. Alan Dickson (see the talk on Walter Scott above) gave us a wonderful enlightening talk on the rooms Etc. So then another "Fast Black" to the Ibis and ready for the evening masonic meeting. Fast Black to Dunedin Caritas Lodge No 1361 (short meeting !! 2nd degree with TB!) but the meeting was followed by the festive board with the ladies and a late return to the Ibis.

Wednesday dawned "wet" but our first damp day, not enough to stop us taking the air after another FULL breakfast and the walk up the Royal Mile to the Edinburgh Castle and buildings including the WW1 memorial. Following the One o'clock gun firing it was down the hill and across the rails again now in the sunshine. St. Georges Street to the Grand Lodge of Scotland Lodge rooms and Museum and a guided tour FASCINATING and NO S&C's in the halls as its used as a public meeting and entertainment arena! The evening meal at the "City Cafe/Restaurant" was too much for my hearing aids even on "T" so Vicky and I ate in the Italian Restaurant opposite for "Glasgow Pizza"! we met up again with the party in "Foggs" the Ibis for final drinks and goodbye's before readying for the 300 mile journey home on the Thursday.

The lodge will meet at Barry Masonic Hall, South Wales on 14th October 2017.

There will be a lodge practice at 10:00 a.m.

We will have a buffet lunch at 12:00 noon at a cost of £10.00

Lodge will open at 1:00 p.m.The principal business will be a Tercentenary Celebration of the first meeting of UGLE 1717 enacted by the Monmouthshire enactment team.

Lodge will open at 1:00 p.m.The principal business will be a Tercentenary Celebration of the first meeting of UGLE 1717 enacted by the Monmouthshire enactment team

For the Ladies we have arranged a guided tour around the Welsh Heritage mueseum at St Fagan’s. In the 100-acre parkland of St Fagans Castle, a late 16th-century manor house, are over 30 buildings moved from various parts of Wales and re-erected to show how our forefathers lived, the old Oakdale workingman’s institute was one of the places frequented by Roy Morris 45 years ago before it was taken down stone by stone 1987 and transported and rebuilt in the museum.

Transport will cost £10.00 and the tour will leave at 10:00 a.m. returning to the hotel at 4:00 p.m.

Should the weather be adverse then an alternative trip will be St. Davids shopping Centre Cardiff.
 
A Ladies festival will then be held at the Masonic Hall at 7:00 p.m.for dining at 7:30 p.m..

The lodge will meet at Lutterworth Masonic Hall  in George St, Lutterworth LE17 4ED Leicestershire on the 12th August 2017. We will tyle at noon.

The meeting has specifically been planned to be attractive to as many as possible, particularly those from jurisdictions other than UGLE. The subject of the lecture is to be “Beyond the Craft - the Other Orders in Freemasonry”, which has been of interest to our continental European brothers since they have much more limited exposure. The guest lecturer is W.Bro Spencer T. E. Fenn P.A.G.D.C. who is very experienced and knowledgeable in the subject.

The talk will be illustrated by brothers wearing the regalia of many of these orders.

There will be a festive board after the meeting at the hall at a cost of £19:00

The menu is

Starter - Field mushrooms stuffed with pate and topped with stilton or Egg mayonnaise salad
Main Course – Roast loin of pork with apple sauce or Poached salmon with a citrus crust
Dessert - Raspberry pavlova or cheese and biscuits.

Lutterworh Events 11th to 13th August 2017

The location for the weekend is south Leicestershire, close to the geographical centre of Roman England. The venues are ideally situated close to the M1 motorway (Junction 20), the M69 (Junction 1) and the A5 trunk road which runs between the two motorway junctions. The nearest airports are Birmingham (25 miles) and East Midlands (30 miles).
The nearest major cities, both about 12 miles away, are Leicester and Coventry.

Sketchley Grange 321 small

The hotel for the weekend will be the Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa situated just outside Hinkley. 

Hotel booking is now open - Room prices are £95:00 double, £80.00 single, with breakfast.

40 rooms have been reserved for Friday 11th August and a lesser number for Thursday 10th and Saturday 12th, but the Hotel advises that there are plenty of rooms available in addition and for other nights. However, book early to avoid disappointment. The guarantee on rooms expires 1 month prior to the meeting.

The meeting will take place at the Lutterworth Masonic Hall – the previous intention to meet at Hinckley having fallen foul of administrative process – which is less than 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel and has ample car parking right in the centre of this small market town 5 minutes from M1 J20. Ths will be followed by a Festive Board at the hall at a cost of £19:00

Friday evening at the Lodge August meeting will be an informal social event at the weekend hotel, Sketchley Grange

We have the use of an attractive bar area opening on to pleasant lawns, and also a function room if wet. It is intended that this will give maximum opportunity for Brethren and partners to circulate and make new friends as well as meeting old ones.
We are hoping that a short musical entertainment will be organised during the evening– more news soon.

The menu, described as a “BBQ Style Menu” consists of the following items:

It is hoped to arrange something for the Ladies on the Saturday or at least give some ideas of things they can do or places they can go to. Watch this space!!

Other ideas for the weekend are :- Both the cities of Coventry (major Motor-themed museum sponsored by Jaguar Cars) and Leicester (Cathedral tomb and museum of King Richard III, largest permanent open-air market in Europe) are within 15 miles of the Hotel.
